Bomb!!!!

Last night there was a bomb threat on the one of the buildings across from the bell tower. The police, late Sunday night were informed about this threat and acted accordingly. Many fellow students in my hall knew what was going on because of Purdue's online web cam system.

We could see on the live feed that the police were searching the labs and rooms of the mechanical engineering building. using dogs and high powered semi-automatic guns the police were able to search the whole building.

This was truly an exciting and frightening moment. I was watching it all happen in real time. The reason I am so baffled about this is that I was over inn that area last night at about nine o-clock. I was in a scheduled pledge class meeting. I saw that the whole fire-station was there, but I did not know what was going on till I got back to my dorm.

Many students in my dorm thought that Purdue would close, but alas they would lose more money closing that staying open. I knew that there would not be any delay in classes. The exponent, even only gave a small paragraph or two to tell what happened. The bomb did not go off, of course and many of the students I talked to think it was a prank, or some kid who did not study for a test and needed extra time. Who knows who did it, why and to what end, I guess we might find out in time after the investigation.

Its no surprise that the police took this incident very seriously. I mean it would be really easy for a person to make a bomb. The internet and all its resources are all you need to create "a weapon of mass destruction".

This reminds me of when I was in high school, there was a bomb threat, so they gathered us all in the gym instead of sending us home. I thought that it was great that the whole school was all gathered together in one area of a building where there was a bomb threat. All they while, they were searching for the bomb…smart!

This incident kind of reminds me of that. Now I’m not upset that they didn’t cancel classes or anything. There would be no point. I’m just wondering why it is that the first time I hear of this is from a blog???

I had not heard anything about this until class today. I was surprised that there was not a bigger warning that was sent out to students. That concerns me a little bit that we were not notified as soon as it happened. I do agree though that it was probably a student playing a joke, but until that was known for sure I would definitely like to have received some warning about this. I liked how you added the part that you were right by the building earlier and didn't even know what was going on. That did give it a little bit of a personal touch.

Like Guy McGee, this reminds me of a time that we had a bomb threat at my high school. However, they didn't gather us all in one place, they just let us go on with classes. It turned out to that a twenty three year old called in the bomb threat from a local Burger King, but didn't really have a reason. I hadn't heard about this until I heard someone talking about it and decided to read about it in the Exponent. It is a little concerning that we were not notified in anyway about this, though. Good job.

I was told about the bomb threat like six hours after it happened. I passed it off as some prank somebody pulled. Not exactly the right mindset for me to have, I suppose.

But explosives are so easy to make. The chemical resources here are pretty vast and somebody could easily take some chemicals from the lab (I'm pretty sure there's some thermite in the supply rooms) and made some sort of explosive.

Maybe security should be tighter?

I am interested in the photo. Where did you get it? Are you the owner?
